- The drill press is a machine drill holes in materials. It rotates at very high speeds and is quite dangerous.
- if you are working on hard materials such as metal, ensure sufficient cooling by using cutting oil.
- Neighbours don't like the noise: no using machines between 19:30-9:00 and on Sundays.
- Eye protection (if necessary, e.g. drilling into metal)
- Hearing protection (if necessary, depends on what you are doing)
- Do NOT wear gloves (as they can get caught in the drill)
- Clamp your workpiece firmly to prevent it from rotating, which can lead to bruising, crushing,... leads.
- Adjust the speed to the tool (diameter) and the material to be processed.
- Adjust the bed and lock it (lock is on the back left)
- Clamp down the material (small pieces should be clamped on both sides)
- Ensure the drill is positioned correctly (use a hammer to make small adjustments)
- Optional step: if you don't want to drill through the piece, you can use the locking screw on the wheel.
- Eye and hearing protection
- Bed is locked
- Wood is clamped (2 with smaller pieces)
- While the drill press is on, check that the drill bit is turning correctly (not wobbly)
- Adjust the speed (1500 for soft wood, 1300-1400 for hard wood)
- Keep left hand on the emergency brake
- Turn with the right hand
- Vacuum up any waste
- Return drill bits
- Return safety gear
