¶ Tormek sharpener

This page is intended as a reminder and does NOT replace a personal introduction to the drill press.
¶ Overview

¶ Safety
- If you do everything right, you have sharp tools that you can cut yourself with, so be careful when handling them.
¶ Setup
- Set up correctly and safely
- Insert the water bath and fill up to the mark. Once the rotating stone has been filled with water, top up with water again up to the mark.
- Mounting the appropriate tool holder
- Setting the correct angle
- Knives for butchers, chefs and kitchens: 30-40°
- Hunting and sports knives: 30-40°
- Carving, filleting and paring knives: 25-30°
- Carving knife: 20-25°
- Chisels: 23-35°
- Scissors: 55-60°
- Hatchets and axes: 25-30°
- If u dont know, wich one or want to use the old angle, mark the edge with an permanent marker and turn the stone by hand to see where material is removed and adjust the height accordingly.
- If a lot of material has to be removed by notching or similar: remove the stone with the rough side of the honing stone while the machine is running. For fine sanding, use the smooth side if necessary.
¶ Workflow
- Grinding on the stone, Mostly against the running direction of the stone.
- pull off on the leather honing wheel with a bit of honing compound, always with the direction of travel of the honing wheel!
- make sure that the stone runs dry for at least another 10 minutes to dry in the rotation, otherwise it will become oval.

¶ Cleanup
- make sure that the stone runs dry for at least another 10 minutes to dry in the rotation, otherwise it will become oval.
- Clean up, leave to dry outside.
- When dry, put everything back in the drawer.
