Next Meeting: May 3rd, 2025
Time: 11AM - 2PM
First meeting: April 05th, 2025
Time: 11AM - 5PM
These infrastructure days should focus on the experience of people with disabilities. We have gained a lot of feedback in the past, but it didn't always get the attention we would have wished for. We would like to dedicate this time to heighten our awareness, understand as much as possible, and find and implement solutions.
There will be an introduction round, where people can also share motivation or experience. We will talk about goals and expectations, what problems we have in terms of accessibility and what options we have to solve them.
We will also do a scenario simulation to put ourselves in context, for example: moving in the space blindfolded, wearing noise cancelling protectors, and see how we feel at the space.
We will do a recap of the event, brainstorm ways to improve it, divide up projects and define the future of this event and its repeatability.
More elaborate projects should receive their own wiki entry and be linked here for easy access and in the kanban board as well. We also want to document the decision for certain things in the wiki, so we can later tell/explain what lead us to doing things we did.
If you want to quickly add some more ideas, please feel free to do so here or in this pad:
If you have the time, please add it to our kanban board:
- kanban - requires member account
There was a lot of feedback for things that aren't working out too well in the past, here is an incomplete collection of things that we are aware of.
¶ Doorbell with visual alarms upstairs and downstairs
- Problem: The doorbell only triggers 1) audio alarm and 2) it's only heard upstairs.
- Context: Our doorbell is a 10 euro device that has basically no connection to the basement.
- Solutions / Options: We have some red Lamps that can be used for visual announcements already.
- Problem: people park bags and other things on the keep clear signs
- Context: the area infront of the LED tree is supposed to be held clear of items at all times as we want to ensure a free and fixed path for people to get through
- Solution: build something with distance sensors that beeps and blinks when in there's too many people / things in the way infront of the LED tree
- Problem: Ladders will be left unsupervised for convenience
- Context: ladders are obstacles that should not stand in the way for too long
- Solution: an attachment that gives an alarm after 5 minutes, if the ladder wasn't moved or shaken or a button was pressed after 5 minutes. Alarm can be visual and sound, doesn't have to be beeping.
- Problem: the coats between darkhain door and LED tree invite people to drop bags below
- Context: the bags are covering up the "keep clear" markings and are in the way on the path that is supposed to be kept free at all times
- Solution: move wardrobe to a different place so that no bags will be dropped below
- Problem: with our maximalism style of decoration come pointy bits that not just catch our attention sometimes.
- Context: we had reports of people getting caught on drillbits that were kept in drills close to a corner or the sewing area with the pointy salamanda thread spool holders.
- Solution: find better ways to store those items and pad up areas one could run into
- Problem: for recent events people came up with ideas on how to arrange the tables differently, that were completely ignoring the "keep clear" path (last infrastructure dinner e.g.)
- Context: For certain events we need a different arrangement of chairs and tables, but there need to be constants like a clear path through the space that is not filled with obstacle
- Solution: For this and future planning of events, we should have a floor plan of certain arrangements and fixed number of people so the event planner knows what to work with. Example: https://www.eventinc.de/eventlocation/berlin/anomalie-art-club
- Problem: we have a keep clear area on the right of the machine room door, that is adjacent to the keep clear path from entrance to back of space
- Context: people added stickers to the floor so that the entrance area wouldn't be used as storage for trash and longterm projects.
- Solution: Change wording of stickers in entrance area and work on visibility of "keep clear" signs on the floor.
