you can use freeCad to design your part and the Path Workbench for all you CAM needs (generating the Gcode)
some software to control the machine is still needed like Mach3, linuxCNC even EstlCAM (to read the Gcode to the Motor drivers)
Current Status - is not operational
Originally came with it's own Motor drivers that ran over Parallel port, now it has a grblShield by Synthetos which run over usb.
USB is not ideal for CNC machines as it's not real time but for now this drives are fine for this machine.
This little machine is quite capable for what it is with plans to make operational again.
