xHain strives to make the place pleasant for people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. We are open for people of different appearances, cultures, ages, sexual & gender identities, and physical & mental abilities.
Different structures are in place to work towards that goal:
accessibility curator
mediators
awareness team
($sanctioning_body, still booting)
The accessibility curator works towards reducing avoidable barriers which hinder the usability of xHain for people of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Areas covered include but are not limited to:
physical abilities (mobility, eyesight, hearing, tallness, handedness, …)
cognitive abilities (neurotypicality, sensory sensibility, …)
mental state (fear of dogs and other animals, …)
age
gender and sexual orientation
origin (world region, (perceived) ethnic group, milieu, languages spoken, …)
formal education
The accessibility curator will survey the space with respect to the categories mentioned above, talk to the relevant members, identify barriers and work towards establishing setups and processes how to reduce them. For instance, the accessibility curator might seek contact with left-handed people to see which areas are currently only equipped for right-handed people. The same applies for the other categories mentioned above.
The current accessibility curator is Sebastian @snordhoff.
In case you are experiencing a conflict with another member, which appears solvable in principle, but somehow you can’t manage, you can turn towards one of our mediators. A list is found on https://wiki.x-hain.de/en/about-xhain/Mediation
Sometimes, you might feel unwell or uneasy not because of one particular person, but because of the general vibe or atmosphere. You might perceive people as noisy, nosey, unwelcoming, rude, excluding, arrogant etc, or you might feel overwhelmed by noise, light, or communication. In these cases, you can turn to the awareness team, which is currently being set up.
There can be cases where people’s behavior is simply unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. These cases will be dealt with by the $sanctioning_body, which will be established within the Verein structure. Details will be available here once the setup is complete.
