Hi there,
here are some news and updates from xHain:
This was not a retreat; it was a change of location. Questions and concerns stowed away with us from Friedrichshain in our luggage. The objective was consensus. Was it reached? I cannot say. Will it result in a written representation of a philosophy which is truly what it means to be a member? I cannot say. Is this simply an agreed upon method for visualizing an image of ourselves rebuilt within superhero bodies? Bodies and minds which are heroes and therefore impervious to the common shortfalls of this society such as exclusivity, privilege, oblivion, and emotional inadequacy. Whatever the outcome of these days of long conversations and nights around the fire, it was progress. I wonder though if the concern with written text overrides the difficulty of introspection with a quick fix. This fix was exhausting, but I cannot address the deeper underlying causes. These are the reasons why consensus is difficult to reach. We might be concerned with the wrong questions. I cannot say. The inclusion and security which we seek might not be possible without an understanding of what we see when we look within and what that means in terms of making ourselves sticky for the bees. CB
Thanks to "NaturFreunde Berlin", the Berliner Senat and industrious xHain members we have a parklet now. We are sharing it with Kulturschöpfer, the art co-working space at the corner of Kadiner Straße. Because it is not allowed to be close to crossroads it is positioned in front of Kadiner Str. 13.
A budget of ~800€ will be spent on a barebone server that will live in our network rack. It is intended to run all the local services that are deployed on several RasPis across the space (and many more). It will have a lower power consumption and give us more possibilities for future projects. Bjoern and danimo (+any volunteers) commit to setting it up and operating it.
Accepted Proposal: The Enting allocates 300 EUR for the door in the rear coworking room to become a real emergency exit. Danimo and Cascha have already investigated the possibilities, trying to balance prevention of burglary and safety. They will present the details of the solution to the Enting before implementation.
Rationale: An emergency exit is in the interest of safety.
Accepted Proposal: The Enting allocates 200 EUR to acquire smoke detectors and related material like emergency lighting. Markus will be the member responsible for setting them up.
Rationale: Our fire detection capabilities are currently substandard.
The Enting Meetings are taking place every second Tuesday of the month at 8:15pm and are public. A good chance to address the Enting or just to observe. The next date is October 10th.
Also there is a Curators Meeting in public every last Wednesday of the month at 8:15pm. The next will be on October 25th.
Join your fellow enthusiasts of blinky colorful lights. For a relaxed evening of working on LED projects, exchanging ideas, asking for advise and getting to know new people. It's always on 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at 6:30pm.
