¶ Hand routers
Hand routers are extremely versatile machines with a very wide range of applications. In conjunction with the right tool, they can be used to round off edges, mill cut-outs, produce profiles or create grooves in wood materials. Due to their manoeuvrability and free movement, they are used for adjustments on construction sites as well as in the workshop.
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection (for everyone in the room)
- Never reach under the machine during processing to hold the workpiece or sections!
- Accidental contact with the rotating tool can cause very serious cutting and milling injuries.
- Ejected splinters, cutting debris or broken tool parts can cause eye injuries.
- Kickbacks of the machine or the workpiece caused by hooking or jamming of the tool can lead to injuries.
- Damaged or faulty live cables can lead to electric shocks via the housing or on cables.
- There is a health risk from inhaling wood dust.
- High noise levels can lead to hearing damage.
- Cutting injuries from sharp-edged tool blades can occur when changing tools.
Before starting work, check that:
- all protective devices are fitted to the machine and are in perfect condition,
- the connecting cable and plug are undamaged,
- all moving parts of the appliance, e.g. the depth adjuster, are working properly and are not jammed,
- the tools intended for processing are undamaged and are not cracked.
Preparing the work process:
- Workpieces must always be fixed and secured against slipping before processing (e.g. with screw clamps).
- Ensure a stable and tilt-proof base, preferably on a work table.
- Insert the milling tool into the open collet as far as possible, but at least up to the marking on the milling shaft. - Ensure that the milling cutter is firmly seated and check that it is running smoothly.
- The maximum speed specified on the tool must never be exceeded; when setting the speed, ensure that the speed range is adhered to.
- Before starting work, set the cutter height and the milling depth with the machine at a standstill.
- If possible, use the depth adjuster for the milling depth and check the set dimension.
- Only change the milling cutter when the machine is disconnected from the power supply. Loosen in the direction of rotation of the milling cutter!
- Always use the extraction bonnets or chip catchers provided for the machine.
- Connect a suction device.
- Ensure that all cables and hoses can move freely during processing and cannot get caught.
- First place the machine on the workpiece and only then switch it on.
- During processing, the machine must always be guided with both hands.
- Milling may only be carried out in the opposite direction, i.e. the feed direction and the cutting direction of the tool are the same.
- Do not plunge the milling cutter into the workpiece until it has started up.
- To ensure that the machine is guided safely and to achieve a good working result, the machine should, if possible, always be guided by a guide rail, a template or at least a guide ring. Only work in freehand milling mode if it is absolutely necessary.
